The lesbians have a much lower risk of infection with HIV than heterosexual women. They have a low prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases, but perhaps with a higher rate of yeast infections. But a study (link below) shows that lesbians are less likely to have regular Pap tests, perhaps because of their perception of the reduced risk of sexually transmitted diseases. This is problematic because, although HPV is less common among lesbians, it is still widespread (13% prevalence, compared to approximately twice that of heterosexual women) and a risk for cervical cancer in the uterus.; February 7, 2010 at 8:38 PM
